Candidasa is no more than a strip of resort hugging the dark sand eastern coastline. It is a right place for your "base camp" to explore the eastern part of Bali. Nearby Tenganan, one of the old traditional village in Bali where the inhabitant of this area believe that they are the origin of Balinese and close to Amed one of Bali's famous dive. Candi Dasa still offers an escape from the hassles of the more populated tourist areas. There are lots of hotels, losmens and restaurants here. You can also hire boats for a day's snorkelling.
Candidasa has a relaxing beach vibe & laid back feel, it is the place to stay for those who want to get away from the more hectic tourist centres of Bali and experience the real Bali, where you can still see & experience the Balinese way of life mostly unaffected by mass tourism. The stretch of coast from Manggis to Samuh village is collectively known as Candidasa, even though it is actually made up of numerous other villages. The name of Candi Dasa comes from the main temple that overlooks the lagoon. The original temple is estimated to have been built in the 11th century BC and is dedicated Hartiti the goddess of fertility.
